Morricone madness: "Guerra e pace pollo e brace" and Broadcast’s OST show

The “la-la-la-la” heavy drums banger from Broadcast’s 2008 Resonance FM OST show – thanks to a track listing on the Broadcast forum, I finally found out what it was:

Here’s the rest of the OST show for download at archive.org, recorded and upped by Vega on the Stereolab forum.

While we’re still down in the dumps, here’s another lovely tribute to Trish from Pete Stanley of Saint Etienne.

RIP Trish Keenan

Hoped so much that it wasn’t true – was enormously saddened to hear of the recent death of Trish Keenan of Broadcast.

There’s been lots written elsewhere, far more eloquently than I could manage (especially Nitsuh Abebe for NYMag, and Peter Paphides for the Spectator – the title Alice Through The Test Card is perfect), but all I can say is that I hope that Trish realised how appreciated Broadcast were, how much they meant to people scattered over the world.

Ofra Haza – “Im Nin’Alu” – from 1978

Heard a bit of the BBC Radio 4 documentary “The Israeli Madonna” the other day, sending me off on a mission to find the version of “Im Nin’Alu” that I remember – the house-meets-synthpop “Played in Full” remix, which was a weird step back in time, ‘cos I don’t think I’ve heard it since it came out in 1988. Proustian pop chills aside, I prefer this stripped down live version from 1978.

Also, you’ve got to check the “Yemenite Songs” version for that much-sampled spine-tingling acapella intro, if nothing else. It’s mentioned in the documentary that Ofra Haza came to the UK for a gig at the Queen Elizabeth Hall, presumably in the late 80s, and one of the players kept the DAT tapes from those rehearsals – think there’s a snatch of it at about 15 minutes in, and it sounds great – do wonder if that might find its way onto the web somehow.
